After studying film and video production, photography, and communications theory, I graduated from Mills College, Oakland, CA in 1984 with a B.A. in Visual Communication. My first involvement in the independent filmmaking community was on a low-budget feature film in San Francisco, shortly after graduation, as a still photographer. But it wasn't until 1992, that I really became involved with film, as an Assistant Director, Script Supervisor, Stills Photographer, and Production Assistant working on a few Hollywood features, independent productions, and in the production department on the Nash Bridges TV show. Having the opportunity to learn about the film production process, I produced, directed, wrote, and shot an award winning 16mm short film in 1993, Ifé. In 1995, I wrote, directed and produced my second short 16mm short, Sightings. If you want to know what it is like to produce a "low budget" short film while unemployed, check out the article I wrote based on my experiences producing and directing those two films, called Make Your Own, which was originally published in Femme Flicke (an excellent women's film zine no longer in publication), and recently re-published in The Ms. Films DIY Guide to Film & Video. My most fulfilling creative project thus far has been raising my daughter as a single mother. She's all grown up now -- smart as a whip, gorgeous, funny as can be, and is without a doubt one of the most incredible women I know -- a very talented writer, slam poet and actress. I have been exhibiting my photography since 1981. Prints are available for sale and exhibition. A few other tidbits: I love to DJ, and have an eclectic collection of records and CDs. I'm also a closet self-taught musician -- occasionally playing the flute and torturing the neighbors by practicing scales on the tenor sax, and collaborating on composing electronic music with my brother. ![]() me on the baritone sax back in the day photography | film & video | home
